Slush Fund Carp Berry
This fly basically imitates a berry or plant material falling from a tree. In areas where salmon and Steelhead are present it will also imitate a fish egg. Please note, this fly is not intended to be a mulberry imitation, but it works just fine as a mulberry imitation. I fish this fly all year round and it can be very productive! Where I fish, Carp will key in on anything that looks like something tasty falling from a tree be it a berry or some type of plant matter, and they will eat this fly year round. The dirty little secret is, they love egg style type flies. When I need a stealthy fly that doesn't spook fish, oftentimes I will reach for this fly, this fly almost never spooks even the spookiest carp. Tied on a black nickel Partridge Patriot Grub hook or similar style egg fly hook. As I've mentioned before, Carp love the color pink, I think they just see the color really well. As an angler, pink shows up very well in the water too and helps you to track your fly and see the carp eat your fly, very important while sight casting! When wet, this fly has a slushy look to it, hence the name. Grab a few to throw in your local waters, you won't be disappointed. I've landed carp from Lake Michigan, all the way down to the New Orleans canals on this fly. Also a great Steelhead and Salmon egg Fly imitation, and Gar love to eat these too. The Dark Olive- Brown color can be a good algae imitation for Grass Carp too. Note, the first photo shows how the fly basically looks when wet.
